Treatment and hope
Nicole responded well to treatment at first and was at one point declared to have no evidence of disease, her sisters said. During chemotherapy she even did CrossFit, and she tried not to live in fear, remaining hopeful, travelling and working hard while she could.

The illness returns
After that hopeful period, the cancer returned and advanced to stage 4, Natalie said. At that point Nicole was told she had about three months to live. She went on to live for about another year, her sisters said, holding on to her faith and the peace they said it gave her.
